BHP bought out a potash development in Canada for under a billion a few months ago so obviously they see potential in this sector. And of course BHP never go into anything just to make up the numbers - they either get a lead role or they are out. Potash's mc is currently about US$27b so it is big enough to matter but not big enough to skew BHP's portfolio significantly.
Of course even if there is something to the rumour there will be no direct effect RWD - the market already knows that BHP likes potash and WA is a long way from Canada (not much nearology in play). But if it turns out that we are on the same page as BHP in investing in potash then that cannot be a bad thing IMO.
