in australia we had the drovers dog election .. ie anyone could have beaten fraser..
too long ago for watso to recall what his voting preferences were at the time, as watso is a genuine swinging voter .. in the run up to the relevant election - it was either haydon or fraser.. watso was a whitlam supporter so was not happy with fraser.. anyway watso knows that he was very very very wary of hawke - the union guy (and watso is a unionist) .. and watso would not have been surprised that maybe watso gave fraser (ie the libs) his preference ahead of hawke (ie lab)..
anyway at the last minute, labor dumped haydon - and gave hawke the gig
one thing for sure is that watso was very wary of hawke - but was pleasantly surprised -and subsequently voted for both hawke and keating
