0419 GMT - New Zealand's NZX-50 closed 0.5% higher at 12888.77 after a session overshadowed by expectations that a2 Milk will lower its earnings forecast. The infant-formula marketing company halted trading in its shares while it assesses what it said was new information that may require it to issue new earnings guidance. Synlait, which produces formula for a2 Milk, slid 7.4%. Matt Goodson, managing director at Salt Funds Management, said a2 Milk's pending announcement will almost certainly be an earnings downgrade given a recent sales slowdown and cautionary comments. The index's rise was driven by gains in Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Ryman Healthcare, Auckland International Airport and Meridian Energy. ([email protected])
