To say it's a design stuff up at this early stage would be premature, but it does seem like they didn't add enough contingency into the trial powering, by the looks of things. It would have been hard to predict the falling control mortality rates back in May, so I am reserving judgement for now.
We don't have any data, so it's too early to say but if it's like everything else there will be some silver lining in the full analysis.
