The patient population is split in half so if there were 100 patients in trial (A+B) then a highly effective treatment the numbers would be 30/50 in A and 5/50 in B = 35 /100 or 35%. If the treatment was a dud (i.e. A ~= B) then it would be 30/50 + 30/50 = 60 /100 or 60%.
