The calcined grade bungy quotes is correct. Calcination is the act of burning off the water in the goethite. It does nothing for the silica content (in fact, it would actually increase it by proportion).

Bungy's equation is wrong, because you need to recalculate the percentages of ALL the elements in the ore, not just the iron. In effect, CaFe will be slightly below 58.7% and Si, Al and P will be up slightly.

As for tccham, UMC's ore is better than FMS's for several reasons; firstly the water content is higher so the CaFe is higher. Secondly, the Si and Al are lower to begin with, so they also will not rise as high as FMS.

And, finally, NiceOne is also right. This ore could be beneficiated. You will now see FMS embark on a protraced microscopy and beneficiation study to see if the ore can be de-sanded and/or washed, to reduce the sand and clay content.

If they are lucky, the nature of the sediment will be coarse pisolites within layered clay and sand beds which can be washed away from the nodules of pure hematite. If they are unlucky, the ore body is just a ferricrete with sand locked up inside the iron enrichment and hence refractory.

I would say it is likely to be beneficiated successfully, because it is reported to be a BID and a CID. However, that said, there are impediments, namely the cost of a wash plant and the costs this imposes on a mine.
