An exerpt from the story in SMH:

Mr Rudd said yesterday he had sought to apologise to the flight attendant at the time.

"I said to the member of staff not to worry about it," he said.

Are we to assume as is implied that he did not actually apologise at the time. Does anyone read that an apology was made at the time in those lines?

The only apology he has made is when, red faced at a press conference he was forced to admit what happened.

I bet he is sorry now...sorry he has been exposed.
