Environmentalists would view mining gold as a waste of considerable time money and energy to produce a product for mostly women to wear as an ornament. It is hardly a productive or sensible pursuit. So many people would want to leave billions in the ground. It's all a matter of perspective and I presume this perspective is largely behind the EA appeal: I have asked GS to outline the appeal basis but he has so far declined. Personally I wouldnt step more than 30 paces inside an underground mine. Something I could run out of in say 30sec. Never was quick and thats a second possible basis for the current appeal. People die in mines, especially underground ones. I am surprised DV hasnt jumped all over you with her new world order. Happy to make money and move on but I dont see mining gold as one of mans crowning achievements.
