http://www.pe.tamu.edu/blasingame/data/z_web_Archive/x_JC_071123/SPE_108779.pdf some examples of american fracturing...main highlight below:
Hydraulic fracturing is an effective stimulation method
to improve well erpformance in tight gas sand.
Fractured well usually will have higher production rate
compared with non-fractured well. The enhancement is
more pronounced in low vertical permeability (high
anisotropy ratio) formation, and a non-fractured
horizontal well may be satisfactory if the vertical
permeability is sufficient.
4. Multiple transverse fractures deliver the best
performance under the conditions in this study. Similar
to well length and well spacing, there exists an optimal
fracture number that yields the maximum benefit of
well stimulation.
