I believe they will still need fission reactors both the old one's and the new coming SMR's, like the US has been saying "all of the above".
Fusion reactors won't be cheap, maybe cheap to run perhaps?
They are still some time away before they can produce more energy than they use, but they will get there in the end I reckon, problems are there to be solved.

But the world still needs to get rid of the older nuclear waste, it is there for free and is actually a problem for the US and many other countries until it is used
