Maybe Florian means that one is more adaptable and less set in ways and open minded when younger as oppose to older?
I must say, the way I travelled in my 20's and 30's I wouldn't want to travel again but I am a more happier and grateful person in life for those experiences.
Travel also makes one aware of us, humanity as a whole, not a them and us mentality many people have, who have not travel.
