actually the ADSL tech. saved telstra from ripping out the old copper wire and laying fiber optic cables , the small amount of optical fiber that has been laid , is also the cheap single mode type, in the US they have used multi mode or the HDT (high data transfer)optical fiber, which is a far superior type in capacity and speed, i cant see telstra putting in optical fiber in the near term , nor should rudd be wasting our cash , nothing wrong with our internet speed right now , unless he thinks we are going to become an economic super power
