Commuters get wireless with security crackdown

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says it will cost up to $4 million to install new wireless technology and security cameras on city trains in Brisbane.

Ms Bligh says the new equipment will give commuters a safer travelling experience, but as an added bonus people can access high speed wireless internet.

She says any illegal activity on the train will be recorded so police can respond immediately.

She says it is an exciting project and the cost is well worth it.

"The entire cost of putting that technology on every train on the network that has cameras in it will be somewhere between one and $4 million," she said.

"We are going out to the market but we expect it will be in that range depending on exactly what the market can deliver."

    Cheers
