I think you all might be lumping negative gearing into a basket all by itself.
Negative gearing isn't some amazing tax benefit linked to property. It is a fundamental aspect of our entire tax system.
TAXABLE INCOME = GROSS INCOME LESS ALLOWABLE DEDUCTIONS
Interest will always be an allowable deduction for profit making ventures. Full stop.
If you think that property investors borrow to offset their income your nuts! I for one would love a few more cash flow positive properties.
