As much as this could mean common practice to some, it is also highly unusual for someone adhering to the terms of their employment (e.g. 6 months notice) to then also receive a generous sign on bonus https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/122407334/new-a2-boss-will-get-55-million-for-signing-on from their new employer. It looks like Mr. Bortolussi will wait as long as he can, before constructively and openly engaging in his new role at A2 Milk.
