you say you have never seen it before but in these credit constrained times, wouldn't a CFO be willing to retire debt and avoid the interest payments by issuing equity. yes, equity would get smashed but we are seeing all sorts of capital raisings at low prices today so why would a conversion be any different (apart from the fact it is a forced equity issue)
