The main importance with ZSS is that without it the fidelity rates are measured in nano seconds, however with ZSS the team at SQC have been able to maintain fidelity up to 30 seconds! Which is absolutely impressive. Not only that but they can operate them at much water temperatures of around 1.5 kelvin, which is around a factor of 1000 times warmer (energy requirement) than what google and IBM require for there superconducting qubits which require very expensive and cumbersome dilution fridges. Along with SQC, Intel are also hedging there bets on silicon qubits and require zero spin silicon as well, however I have been unable to find out where they are sourcing there ZSS from. They use to get it through a partner company who sourced it from the russians via centrifuge technology.
