The greatest challenge to self-healing concrete will be achieving consistent crack width i.e. this is already difficult enough to achieve in a consistent manner, which is currently why steel reinforcement is used.
Wrong. Steel reinforcement is used to increase tensile strength and prevent catastrophic failure. It is isn't even needed for high strength pavement poured onto a properly prepared-sub base eg airport runways.
