considering Liddell alone has a rated capacity of 1680MW in 2018 - that can run for 24 hours a day... we still are no where enough planned storage - especially when a chemical battery installation typically is only able to run at capacity for four hours.
Storage is where the spending is needed - but there is a lot more to be spent.
The you need more wind everywhere and solar (less so in states already achieving $0 pricing during daytime) so that storage options can soak up the surplus energy for later deployment
First movers will stand to make the most due to less competition... selection of best locations... best transmission lines... proximity to production and population density... etc etc
