I had thought he was basically retired anyway at this point, but I could be wrong.
There was a doco on Netflix (I think) a while ago about the showdown between him and the machine. It was actually really interesting seeing him wrestle with this new challenge, contrasted with all of the 'behind the scenes' developers on the other side celebrating their success and watching their creation become virtually unbeatable. From memory he was pretty philosophical about losing, but it was like he had the weight of humanity on his shoulders trying to win for the human race. In the end he seemed pretty defeated and resigned to his fate.
Anyway, pointless sidebar. Worth a watch - probably still on Netflix.
