388 million pounds required over 10 years, 5.2 million pounds coming from Paducah each year when the plant is built? So maybe Paducah could supply around 13 million pounds of that in that timeframe? where is the rest coming from? if they don’t take Uranium or enriched Uranium from Russia any longer?
There are not enough mines in the US big enough to supply that, even if they wanted to, it would take years to build up US mines big enough even if they could, there will be a huge gap, and even some of the stuff from US mines will be headed for their planned US stockpile which means it isn’t really available for some time.
I believe a lot of this material will still come from O/S still, places like Australia and Canada, I reckon Cameco saw this as an opportunity, because they will get a good deal more U235 from their U308 at Paducah than any competitor will, and they will also save on conversion and de-conversion and if they build another enrichment plant? to take it beyond natural grade to a higher level, then the savings will continue, they will save on conversion and de-conversion again and they will have a far cheaper plant build and one that is a hell of a lot more efficient in what it does compared to the competition.
