What you are saying doesn't necessarily make sense.
I accept what you are saying about staggering your profits over a numbering of years instead of selling once in a few years time at say $5 and facing one large tax bill. But why sell on the 1st July? Accepting the strategy of staggered sales doesn't mean you should sell on the 1st July. If anything you should sell at the end of the FY so that you know exactly what your profit/loss situation for the year is. In your argument, if you sell at the 1st July for a profit, then at the end of the FY, if the shares were trading at a loss you would then also have to sell to offset the profit. What's the point of that. Had you waited until the end of the FY in the first place, you would only be selling once. There would have been no need to sell at the 1st July. You have incurred two unneccesary brokerages.
I state once again, selling shares at the beginning of the FY in order to lock in profits simply doesn't make sense from a tax perspective.
This was the whole basis of the belief that hdr would fall come 1st July
Wait until the end of the FY and assess the situation then depending on your own circumstances.
