    sb2000,
Just imagine who will pull out all their office/house wiring to replace it with shielded wires?

    No-one...

It would seem that the smart money is on wireless and fibre-optics right now.

ALthough there is one company (Israeli I think from memory) that has power over ethernet... that is you plug just your network cable into your PC/TV or other device, and power is supplied to it via the network cable.

Mains power is supplied to you hub/switch or similar and supplied via the network cables to the devices connected to it.

Far more sensible for the single cable solution.
But depend on what you want and what your target and restrictions are.

There is coming a new, long waited homeplug standard (powerline communications inside the home/office) to replace the current, rather slow, and not too reliable standard, that is likely to be at least partially adopted by the whitegoods manufactueres and the entertainment equipment manufacturers as a cheap way to network all home appliances.

Bit of a race between wireless and the various other options right now I would guess.
