She's already an Officer of the Order of Australia awarded for her extraordinary record and involvement with tennis in Australia. Awarded in 2007. Ok so can you tell us rjay49 what has Margaret Court done since to progress and promote Australian tennis far and beyond being a former great to warrant additional recognition? List please. Logically then what you're saying is the earlier awarding of an AO to Court (and even the MBE) was a mistake and the nomination itself and later the awarding committee got it wrong. Open that Pandora's box. Now this discussion has nothing to do with left or right despite the fevered imagination and urgings of some, its about due recognition by way of an Australian honour for extraordinary service and its debasement by a politician (good heavens the awards are 'managed' by PM&C...) now intent on appealing to a particular religious audience. Follow the thread? You could well argue the Order of Oz has been serially debased through the awarding of undue honours to all manner of undeserving so why bother singling out Court? Damehood/Knighthood anyone?
