Bisantrene is coming at the problem from the other direction - down regulate the systems cancers uses to prevent the immune response killing the cancer. One of the major mechanisms cancers appear to use to evade the immune system is to overproduce FTO. The preclinical data suggests that inhibiting FTO removes the ability of cancers to hide from the immune system.

Our hypothesis is that when low dose bisantrene is combined with a PD-1 inhibitor we can treat cancers that don’t respond to the checkpoint inhibitors on their own. If this approach works it will be massive breakthrough, but until we do the trials we won’t know for sure. Investors need to look at the preclinical data and try to estimate the probability of success of these trials. This probability is the key number to valuing RAC. I have obviously done this estimation, but everyone needs to do their own probability calculations. One thing I can say is the market is assuming the probability of this approach working is zero. I think the market is wrong, but only time will tell.

dear Dr T, thank you for all of the work you are doing in this important field of medicine. Twelve months ago yesterday my mother passed away from bowel cancer, so as a small investor I have a bit of an emotional attachment regarding the success of the studies you are carrying out. I’m sure my story is not that unique among investors in your company. The work you are doing sounds very promising and I very much look forward to reading about (hopefully) highly successful trial results in the next twelve-eighteen months.
