Really? The kiddies argument again. Pretty hard to argue against the poor kiddies argument when the prognosis is poor. After all, who wouldn’t give a poor kiddie a last shot whatever the cost.
But the Poor Kiddies argument only goes so far. What if it doesn’t work? What if it only works a bit. A very little bit? What if the cost per treatment is enormous? Very enormous.
What if the cost per treatment of successful outcomes is,say, $2million (assuming lots of treatments don’t actually work)? Is cost a factor at all? Should there be unlimited cost by taxpayers or insurance companies? What if we could get better health outcomes for 500 Kiddies for the 2million bucks though better diet programs; through better drinking water? Not sexy at all. No sp increase either.
Perhaps we could raise more tax to pay for this, oh and all the other unproven treatments without a randomised trial? Oh we saw how that ended. Even the absurd taxation franking credit scheme couldn’t get through.
