They are already funded by much more than any commercial channel and despite showing no advertisements and many other advantages still aren't anywhere near the commercial channels. I wouldn't throw more money at such a poorly run organisation. The definition of non-profit is misleading as it is government funded and a lot of people earn significant money with them. They also contract out to organisations that do make a profit. If your proposal has merit, I would take away funding from the ABC and allow them to provide basic services, and fund an arts organisation that could provide content for all channels, and sell overseas with a strict guideline that they are not to be political in any way. That would ensure governemnt aren't intervening in the free market, and government funding is not being used to divide the country.
