    Whathappened

SaudiArabia deposited $2 billion with the Central Bank of Yemen in January 2018under a development and reconstruction program. The money was intended to fund credit to buy commodities - such as rice, sugar, milk and flour - to strengthen food security and stabilize domestic prices.

Bin Daghr was Prime Minister at the time and President Hadi has now put him in charge of prosecuting the UN report.

The corruption and mismanagement that the UN Panel of Experts report exposed, is something that southerners have been complaining about since 2017. It's the main reason they demanded the removal Bin Daghr and the rest of the corrupt officials in January 2018

What did they steal? Through monopoly of controls on imports, all must-buy items are priced through corrupt companies (see next box ) at inflated exchange rates.

    The @UN
report which accuses Hadi govt/CBY Aden of money laundering/breaking intal finance laws, is making shockwaves throughout Yemen, especially in #SouthYemen where people for the past 4 years complained that the war has become a financial racquet & wonder why Saudi is silent.

In general the UN report showed the essentials of how each side fulfills its hunger for corruption. It damages the reputation of all participants. For example in keeping with mantra of peace in our time (do we remember this!) it screws over the STC, UAE and KSA with literally saving the lives of 8 million South Yemenis by fighting the Houthi out of South Yemen. The UN cannot even get the Houthi to allow the long-awaited inspection of a rusting oil tanker, SAFER, off the coast of #Yemen.
