Actually on the interesting aspects side of things, one thing I did discover through the previous diatribe was the report concerning alpha-beta lithium extraction which mentioned a possible technique to reduce the required furnace temperatures by an order of magnitude by first microwaving the infeed spod.
The paper didn’t develop the discussion far enough to discuss comparative energy needs for microwave plus 100C roasting cf 1000C roasting but there might be something worth exploring in that avenue to reduce overall cost for converters. Have you come across anything along these lines before? Link to the article I found is back in this thread somewhere.
