Basically, at the moment, medicinal cannabis is available as a schedule 4 medicine by prescription through the TGA Special Access Scheme (SAS). https://sas.tga.gov.au/

The TGA has decided to down-schedule medicinal cannabis from schedule 4 to 3 to make it available over the counter in pharmacies. The sting in the tail, however, is that they require these drugs to be on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) which has requires more rigorous standards for testing of efficacy, dosage and quality for specific indications. As the TGA release of 15 December states, there currently are no medicinal cannabis drugs listed on the ARTG. All the drugs available as Schedule 3 drugs are registered under the SAS.
