No one is saying stimulus isn't needed. But to the level that it has been raised and where it is targeted, is the matter of concern. Why couldn't the government put the money into something that will last. I'll throw a couple at you: green energy (solar, hydro, wind, geothermal etc), sustainable water (desalination), laptops for high school students (core Rudd election promise), development of the Perth-Adelaide Hwy, reducing infrastructure bottlenecks (another key Rudd promise), federal grant for the improvement of Subiaco oval, new hospitals. Projects of this scale would produce jobs across the board. Engineering, admin, IT, construction, consultancy contracts, legal, accounting, transport.....the possibilities are endless. Large infrastructure projects like that aren't sexy, but they produce jobs on a mass scale and leave things that will last decades into the future. Take Olympic stadium. To this day, NSW and Australia are still enjoying the economic benefits.

Handouts, roof insulation, mending tatty schools, public housing......the jobs aren't produced on a mass scale and have very short term outcomes.

Rudd is smart.........smart, cunning, cruel, sneaky!
