I'm prepared to accept that on 21st January Redflow management new nothing about the initiative. 56 sites is significant for Redlow. The company is given to trumpeting four batteries as a significant win. But for Optus it's a droplet in a very large budget. They probably picked 56 sites where the existing power supply needed maintenance or upgrade and dropped a proposal to the department in case they could score some public funds, all without speaking to Redflow except to confirm a supply price maybe. Redflow is already a supplier to Optus, and already have the batteries installed, so the wouldn't have to consult intensively over site requirements or operational characteristics.

But I do think it's particularly bad form that Redflow didn't request a trading halt the moment they did learn of it. I would hope that at the very least they got on the phone to the ASX to consult whether one was necessary.
