If a high school student, in their final exams, were asked a question about Macbeth, then ignored the question and wrote a brilliant essay on Hamlet, what mark would you give them?
Should the examiners give them a good mark for the quality of the essay, or should their essay be marked down using the same scrutiny and marking criteria used for every other student?
