Ahhh, it's noice to get some discussions going, so yes Dayz, I know I don't need to justify myself but it's good to chip in 2c worth occasionally.
Epsi' (if I may call you that), you are entitled to your opinion: "In my opinion, Financial Planners/Advisors are selling bulldust. They aren't selling you anything that you can't do yourself, with a little effort.", but you blow any cred with "I've never had even a tertiary relationship with a financial advisor/planner. I'm just a cynical, suspicious bastard."
There are plenty of people making a living from helping people do something they could do themselves and I'm keen to hear about the last tooth extraction you did on your own....
I think your interpretation is the narrow one many people have and I will say many Planners epitomise, that is they are seen as people who place investments for you, then bugger off. Especially in 4 particularly large institutions, that is true.
Where there is long-term value and benefit is where FP's actually help clients to understand where they want to get to, devise a strategy, provide a plan to protect what they have and help them to get things happening. I've seen plenty of people that might be able to do things themselves, but in all honesty.....don't, because they need someone to guide them. You can lead a horse to water, but can't make it think!!
Cheers and keep up the discussion, it's never a bad thing.
