The debt liabilities relate to the accounting treatment of the convertible notes which are treated as a liability whilst they are outstanding and attract interest. At the date of conversion of the notes (2011) the liability is reduced and the issue of shares is shown in equity. This is reasonably well laid out at a high level in note 21 of the 2008 accounts.
