The relevant take home message in this paper is that an antiviral in a nose spray completely protected ferrets from being infected by the covid-19 virus.
In this study 3 purposely infected ferrets are placed in a cage together with an 2 uninfected ferrets. One of those uninfected ferrets received a placebo spray, the other a spray with the antiviral compound. After 24 hrs all "placebo ferrets" were also infected whereas none of the ferrets that received the antiviral were. Moreover, the placebo ferrets developed anitbodies against the covid viurus, the ones that received the antiviral didn't. The indications are that the antiviral compound blocks the ability of the virus to enter cells by interfering with the spikes on the virus.
Great result I think. But they're ferrets, not humans. Maybe a daily little puff of this antiviral will prevent infections and open up the world again. Couple of years of clinical testing to go to confirm these results and study safety before it can be commercialised. Would be good if Recce can reproduce a similar result with their compounds
