Ok so just doing some thinking on what "could" be in the Boeing pipeline.
I finally found (again) the original patent application of the "high-performance titanium alloy “Amalloy Beta Ti”". I remember last time i found it and couldn't believe the potential applications when noting the numbers in this excerpt from the patent. (available here https://patents.google.com/patent/US20200291502A1/en?q=%22titanium%22&inventor=Wu+Xinhua&assignee=Monash+University)
If you read up on the history of the Boeing 787 production (for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_787_Dreamliner) you will see the significant problems that Boeing had to get the plane's weight where it should have been (significantly affected the plane's maximum range and fuel efficiency).
Current "payload" weight of the 787 depends on the model, but if we use ~52,000kg, even the minimum 6,000kg potential weight saving suggested in the patent would be an 11% improvement. Huge commercial reasons for an airliner to drop that much weight (for range and fuel efficiency) or a cargo plane to add extra payload for example.
But rivets aren't the only thing obviously when you consider a plane. The below was from Amaero showing they can 3D print an Airplane "door hinge". There aren't that many of them on a plane, but imagine if the "Alloy" bracing that holds each passenger seat was made of the Amaero super-titanium? I would imagine the bulk numbers of both rivets and seat bracing etc would be "forged", not 3D printed, but the potential sales of the patented titanium powder, and the possible "tooling" that Amaero could provide would be enormous enough.
Oh, and Amaero just "happen" to have this guy on the Board....I wonder what the potential opportunities really are when the "salesperson" knows as much about Boeing's needs as Boeing does?
I am leaning towards Amaero having a very bright future, but as I've said before, some commercial contracts to provide initial validation to shareholders (and further institutional investors) will always be a nice bonus.
