Since there are remediation issues left by other miners, South African community trust issues with WWI are all the more understandable.
To negotiate effectively you must put yourself in in the position of the other side.
To them WWI is just another miner with more promises. if WWI are true to their word. They want to take out the IF part and nail all the negotiated promises down legally.
Why should South African people live in poverty next to a mine that's making a miner (especially a foreign miner to SA) and shareholders rich? It's their country, and their minerals.
Quite reasonable positions such as this has been trivialised by some as 'eco-warriors'. What a bizarre form of denial.
I can't understand why some are refusing to get their heads around it. It's simple reality.
I'm sure WWI continues to hope that shareholders don't try to strong arm proceedings. They are indeed delayed by Covid19 and we should take that at face value. We would do that with other situations just this one involves the prospect of making us money. That is enough to make some people unreasonable.
