not a surplus, but minimise the deficit....
they could have increased the gst to 12% (not only raising tax revenue, but creating loads of jobs in IT and Finance functions as a bonus to get the new rate changed in all the systems out there)
and instead of throwing money around that people will spend on plasmas, invest in things that provide something to the community - more police, nurses, uni's, training, etc.
budgets these days are about votes, not the economy..... our 4 year political terms make our pollies extremly short sighted and they have misaligned priorities to their shareholders (the population of aust).....
