I got caught on being top heavy on a particular stock which then had a spectacular fall.

I have no more than 20 stocks. When buying I never go above 7.5% of total portfolio but always buy a new company in increments. It might take me 4-7 bites to get to my pre determined allocation.

If a stock rises I start to get twitchy when it is 15% of total portfolio and if it hits 20% i start to offload.

This is my system to ensure I never get hit by being top heavy.

I trust you have a system for allocation of capital as a way of managing your risk.
