From what I can see, this device of implant + patient-worn glasses/camera/processor helps already-blind RP sufferers to potentially recognise some light patterns as well as some basic shapes and movement. More recent trial data of a variant of this bionic eye invention demonstrates very modest improvements and also raises some red flags re safety.
I’m hoping that PYC’s VP-001 will demonstrate better outcomes, better safety and hopefully prevent RP blindness by halting progress of the disease at early stage.
