Solar Power station ussually means large empty land which is filled up with solar panels on Steel structers.
For the sake of argument lets compare solar modules and space required.
Now the conventional silicon crystaline solar modules in the 160 to 180W Watt format would = 1.6M x 0.76M each panel = 1.22Msq

Modules made by thin film First Solar in the 72.5W format area format = 1.2M * 0.6M = 0.72Msq,

Convert to 180W = 180W/72.5W = 2.48 * 0.72Msq = 1.79sq

So if you use Thinfilm Vs Crystalline, you would require to use up 32% more land.

Now if bluglass say only achives 36% effi. My best guess this would = 360W in a 1.6M x 0.76M each panel = 1.22Msq

This translates to 100% more power for each sq Vs the crystaline silicon modules and around 300% more wattage Vs First Solar's thinfilm tech. That means 3 times less structions, 3 times less land usage!

My guess is these plants are years away, also will be completed in phases. My guess is the first phase will be awarded to the modules available on the market. Hopefully when that is executed, bluglass would be in precommerical stage and making a heap of noise. Which would put itself in pole postion for the addtional phases.

Just 2 years ago Australia was only a 10MW market. THis year we will be lucky to hit 40MW. I cant see us moving from 40MW to 1000MW in one year. It would have to be done in stages. Also it will hurt the makret by artifically cause prices to surge. Which means spending alot more money on the solar project then it planned.
