If you think in an election year the PM just lets the regulatory body make a decision and then Pitt makes his approval or not without first discussing the implications of these decisions with the PM you are extremely naive.
This decision from Pitt will be thoroughly worked over by the PM and the party advisors. No approval without the PM's approval.
It's just whether today' statement by the PM was ..
1. a gaff ( unlikely)
2. an attempt to deflect the fallout away from the the PM and onto Pitt's shoulders who holds an electorate much more pro-resources / mining.
3. an attempt to take early credit ( whilst in a seat strongly opposed to PEP11) for an upcoming rejection.
We will soon find out. I've reduced my holding but understand it can still go either way.
