I beg to differ with the negative prognosis re. BHP
Oil will be its main profit driver and recently increased agreage in the Gulf of Mexico have added to the stocks attractiveness.
Diversification is another of this mining giant's strengths.
Major resource stocks - BHP RIO WPL STO - are the cyclicals to get into for the emerging long term bull run in resources.
The wheel has almost come full circle. The resources boom is not that far away. Asian markets, especially China will have a voracious appetite for commodities and the big majors are leaner and more efficient than ever.
We are near the bottom of the "resources cycle" - no one knows how close we are. Maybe we are just bouncing off it.
The long term cycle for resources - and I am talking years, not months - looks exciting and will be a wealth generator for those who get in at what will be, in retrospect, rock bottom bargain prices.
Leaving aside short term trading trends, BHP RIO WPL and STO must be outstanding long term buys.
Cheers, X
