https://www.aus biz.com.au/media/digital-wine-ventures-looking-to-the-uk-to-grow?videoId=8052here are my key takeaways from the latest interview (copy & pasted from the Media Thread)This was something I missed in my DD, I think most may have missed this info:"we are a platform business technology company.. we are actually knitting together existing 3PL providers to create our logistics networks, so we don't actually manage or own those sites directly..(the warehouses) don't sit on our balance sheet"
In regards to B2B Marketplace:"What's really exciting now is we are in the final days of our countdown to launching the B2B Marketplace. This is the part of our business that we are working towards... Building the logistics platform was really the base of the business, and that's going to be really exciting to see how the industry embraces it."
In regards to the recent NZ expansion/take-ups:
"it has caught us by surprise actually, we had a little bit of initial interest... they could see the value it offered for Australian producers but for the NZ wineries there's an enormous savings. It costs them over $100 to ship a case of wine over. Australians love Kiwi wines. For them to tackle that DTC market we have the capability to get the stock in to our depots and service those orders same day, next day for a fraction of that price. There's beena lot of interest just in the logistics solutionbut the B2B market place...I think the Kiwi producers are even more aggressive than the Aussiesand really seeing the potential for this to sell into the Australian market without going through a distributor and make it a far more profitable channel"
In regards to plans for international expansion (and China):
"Absolutely! What we've realised from the NZ experience is that it's a great solution not just for Australian producers, but for international producers... Sowe already have people queuing up from France and Spain.. we even had a Nigerian spirits producer approach us this week. There's a whole range of products that actually seem to fit the platform andour addressable market just continues to grow.We are the only fully integrated end to end trading logistics platform in the world. We certainly want to get things right here (in Australia), and the intention is to take it into other markets. Particularly with what is happening with China -there's $1.2B of wine that used to go to China and that needs a new home. And through a platform like ours we could make markets like the UK profitable again. There's demand for Australian wine in the UK... but alsoArgentina, Chile, and lots of the new world wine producerscan get their product there cheaper."
Situation of premium Australian wine products in the UK:
"(Concentrating on the) more premium end. Australian producers are still lucky they have a lot of brand equity in that (UK) market they just haven't had the ability to get their full range of products into that market. There's still scope to leverage that legacy brand equityand to take back that (UK) market. 15 years ago we were selling $1B of wine to the UK so it's certainly not a pipe dream"
There ya go! seems like DT is still at it making our invested capital work for us even harder
