I am still in country but will be leaving soon, current status is crazy the locals are in fear mode and the army are running rampant. To respond to a few comments above, yes it does appear the chinese are supporting the coup in quite a few ways yes they want the minerals, want the road link to india and the port and they want the agriculture. The elected government have said they will review any investment deals agreed with the army when they restore democracy so MIC should be ok. My opinion is the public will win, 50m v 4m (Ghandi quoted similar in India) They just need to get better organised and need time and God forbid some support internationally instead of words. Economics is basically at a stand still, expats are leaving and international companies closed, closing or mothballing. Take care all.
