The crosses aren't part of the market, these are deals that can be made sometimes months in advance, can be supported by the holding of derivatives, swaps, etc.
There was never going to be a massive market dump, never, this was so well flagged so long ago, it's just not how it works.
Again, "market mechanics", I can't give the details as I'm not the expert in the how, but I do know full well this happens and some nerds in another department handle the "how".
