I think that Akida is a processor in the sense that it can categorize input information, such as the tiger.I don't know if the earlier accelerators had the capability to classify the input information.
However, Akida is nor designed to do anything with the processed information.
The information can be fed to a CPU for use in control of a car etc.
Akida does include an ARM processor, although this is used only in set-up/configuration.
Given that it perfroms the classification with much less power and in faster time, it can be considered as an acelerator.
Given that it can work with a GPU,in that sense, I think of it as a co-processor.
I understood that LdN was trying to emphasise that Akida had more processing capability that the then state-of-the-art accelerators.
