Goldman Sachs seem a little behind the curve relative to what VW announced on their Power Day presentation. While Goldman are correct that LFP batts are seeing a resurgence, studying what VW presented wrt high manganese (Mn) cathodes is very interesting, noting this cathode chemistry seems to tie in with their Solid State asperations.
If I have correctly understood VW proposed cathode chemistry, which is described as high or Lithium-Manganese rich cathodes, with lithium content at 20%, instead of ~11%. These materials show energy densities comparable or better than standard NCMs at a considerably lower price.
It appears VW is heading in the right direction, best to read Manganese-rich cathode article first, a long read, just to distract you while the BEOT bend us over....
