"Rugby League refugees looking for an AFL team to support really only need to choose between the unbeaten Saints and Cats. Go the Saints, bring on round 14."
Well the choice is clear then. On the one hand you have the cats who have been the dominant team over the last 3 seasons, but unfortunately, before that, they were always seen as the bridesmaid. A sad history, especially in the 90s, of failure at that last day in September. Im sure last years GF would have brought back chilling memories for cats fans...
Then we have St Kilda. If the there was ever a synonym for mediocrity, maybe it could be saints. Possibly the saddest history of all AFL clubs. Just the one flag (66) and year after year of misery. Record holder for the most wooden spoons in the league. Recent history is not much better, having what would widely be agreed as one of the best lists in AFL over the last 5 years, the fact that they havent even made it to the grand final is testament to the history of this club......
Sorry to be so blunt, but any prospective new AFL fans would be better off following one of the powerhouses (except collingwood). Chances of long term success much higher IMO.
